Mexico is globally known for tequila and pulque, but it also has a great reputation when it comes to beer. This beverage has become popular among Mexicans, boosting domestic production and making Mexico one of the largest beer producers in the world. Famous commercial brands are exported to all corners of the globe, but the beer culture in Mexico is also characterized by a variety of craft breweries and regional beers that offer flavors and styles for beer aficionados to explore.

In recent years, the country has become a powerhouse in beer competitions. With the growing interest in the craft beer industry, these competitions have become increasingly popular, providing an excellent opportunity for producers to showcase their beers, receive feedback from specialized judges, and gain recognition in the market.

BAP is proud to have collaborated with the development of several Mexican beer competitions over the years, working closely with some of the country's best beer producers. Below, we mention some of these partners:

COCEPA - COPA CERVECERA DEL PACÍFICO

COCEPA is one of the pioneering craft beer competitions in Mexico and is now recognized as one of the largest and most important independent events in the country. The competition takes place in Ensenada, Baja California, and has already held thirteen successful editions. Both professionals and amateurs can participate, following the guidelines of the BJCP - Beer Judge Certification Program.

In the last edition, held between March 12th and 15th, over a thousand entries were submitted, from ten different countries, and evaluated by a highly qualified body of national and international judges.

ARO ROJO

Aro Rojo is an international beer competition that annually summons breweries from all over Mexico and the world. The main goal of the competition is to award and recognize quality beers, as well as to encourage responsible consumption of well-crafted beer. For a week, the competition also seeks to provide cultural exchange, bringing together multicultural experiences in beer.

In its last edition, the event was held in the city of Tampico, in northeastern Mexico, from June 6th to June 10th, 2022, providing to all brewers the opportunity to obtain international recognition.

COPA CERVEZA MX

Copa Cerveza MX is an organization that focuses on holding beer competitions in Mexico, both for professionals and amateurs, with the aim of recognizing and awarding the quality of the beer. Their mission is to stimulate the craft beer culture in Mexico by organizing competitions that acknowledge the excellence of beverages. They also promote beer education through the training of beer judges.

Copa Cerveza MX was one of the first competitions to take place in Mexico. In addition, a fun-fact is that the Copa Cerveza MX was the first Mexican organization to adopt powered by BAP, setting precedents for the evolution of the Mexican competitions as a whole.

COPA DESIERTO SONORA

This beer competition was founded in 2020 in Hermosillo, in the northwest of Mexico, and has already become an important platform for professional and amateur brewers to receive feedback from experienced judges. This process contributes to the development and strengthening of the local industry. It promotes the maturation of local producers and strengthens the beer community in the region.

COPA CENTRO MX

Copa Cervecera CentroMX is an annual professional beer competition that takes place in Tlaxcala, Mexico. This event aims to promote and contribute to the growth of beer culture and industry in the country. The competition is open to all competitors who produce craft beers and meads for commercial purposes, regardless of the style. Samples are judged following the BJCP style guidelines, ensuring that each beer is judged according to rigorous and fair criteria. With this, the competition seeks to recognize and award the best brewers in the country and encourage the production of high-quality beers in Mexico.

COPA SAN ARNULFO

Recently launched, this event aims to evaluate the quality of beers, meads, and ciders, maintaining rigorous control over production through tasting and evaluation by experienced judges certified by the BJCP. The event is an excellent opportunity for producers and enthusiasts of craft beverages to improve their knowledge and tasting skills, as well as contribute to the growth of the local beer industry.

COPA HIDROMIEL

This event, an exclusive competition for mead, aims to support and promote the production and consumption of this beverage made from honey. The competition is open to both amateur and professional producers, seeking to boost the growth of this special and delicious drink.

These competitions are an important milestone in Mexican beer culture and excellent opportunities for beer producers to stand out, receive feedback, and gain recognition in the market.
